Hubert “Hubie” Austin Green was born on October 2, 1954, in Chattanooga, TN to Mary Margaret and Walter Green. Hubie was special from the beginning and on March 13, 1975, he moved into a group home at Orange Grove Center. Hubie touched numerous lives with his big smile and deep booming voice. At. 6”7” and 400 pounds, he was a giant of a man. There were three things Hubie loved, Jesus, children and food.

Hubie attended the Sunshine Class at Abba’s House until his health began to fail. Hubie had many friends at his church and he always greeted them with a smile, handshake, and a kiss for all the ladies. He loved hymns and gospel music and he would sing along with his big, booming, voice.

Children were always dear to Hubie’s heart. Almost all of the house managers Hubie lived with over the years had small children and each one had a special bond with Hubie. The “gentle giant” would play with them for hours on end with his big, never ceasing, smile. Hubie had a very special place in his heart for the last child he lived with. Andrea was a baby when she and her parents moved into Hubie’s home. Almost instantly, the bond between the two formed. The bond was so strong that Hubie went with Andrea and her parents on vacations, the two were inseparable.

Hubie had to move from the home he shared with Andrea with his health failed. He was an instant hit in his new home with all the staff and other individuals he shared a home with. To know Hubie was to love Hubie. He spent his last days surrounded by his caring staff who loved him dearly. He kept a smile on his face until the Lord called him home and that smile grew larger when he met Jesus. Hubie, you are missed and will always be loved by everyone who had the privilege of knowing you!!

A funeral service to commemorate Hubie’s life will be conducted at 3:30 PM Thursday, August 1, 2019, in the funeral home chapel with Reverend Tyrus Chislom officiating.

A private burial will be held at Chattanooga Memorial Park.
