Rhoda Marie Hunter was born on April 7, 1922, in Dewey County, Oklahoma to parents James and Clara McAfee. She was the 4th of 7 full brothers and sisters, but she also had 14 half brothers and sisters.

She went to her Heavenly home on July 26, 2019, at the age of 97.

Rhoda married Lewis Lee Hunter on July 15, 1942 in Dewey County, OK, and which is also where her first child was born. Shortly thereafter, the family moved to Northern California, where three more children were born. In 1950, the moved to Lamar, CO, where her last child was born.

In 1960, the family moved to Sapulpa, OK. Rhoda went to work at Bartlett Collins Glass Co. and retired from there approximately 15 years later.

Rhoda enjoyed life and her family, even when times were hard. She made many friends on her journey of life, and she loved to make people laugh. Her favorite saying was “you can go through life with a smile or a frown but is more fun to laugh!” She loves to tease and be teased back.

In 1999, she moved into Hickory Crossing Senior Housing complex, where she lived for 17 years. Again, she made more friends. At age 80, she served and delivered meals in the complex kitchen for the “seniors” living there.

She loved decorating her home with angels and butterflies, and enjoyed crocheting, cross-stitch and jigsaw puzzles.

At age 95, she moved into Ranch Terrace Nursing Home, where she made new friends and made them laugh. She enjoyed Bingo and Dominoes, and she never lost her competitive spirit.

Most importantly, she loved her Lord and reading her Bible.

Rhoda is survived by her son Ira Lee Hunter, and his wife Ona May of Durant, daughter Laretta Kay Stroud of Durant, daughter Karen Sue Jester and her husband Dub of Sapulpa, and son Larry Lynn Hunter and his wife Faye of Sapulpa. She is survived by 5 grandchildren, Nedra, Andrea, James, Brian, Pam and Traci and 6 great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband Lewis, son James Charles Hunter of Sapulpa, and granddaughter Laura “Bo” Tanner of Sapulpa.

Rhoda also leaves behind nieces and nephews that she loved as her own children, along with many friends.
