COLTZAU, Alvin M. As a life long resident of the Antelope Valley, Al was born to Edward and Carolyn Coltzau on January 25, 1921. Passed away June 21, 2007. He spent his childhood on a ranch located on Ave J and 140th St. East. He was a World War II veteran. In 1944, as a member of the 52nd Air Engineer Squadron he serviced the B29s flying out of Saipan. Tech Sgt Coltzau received The Bronze Star Medal and a citation for the design of protective equipment on a fire control system. After the war the highly skilled mechanic continued his work as a employee for Buddy Redman of Redman Plymouth and later H.W. Hunter for 38 years. From 1964 through 1968, Al and
Lois owned the Ponderosa Tavern and Picnic grounds, located at the old ranch. After "retirement" he spent the next 25 years restoring antique cars and serving different roles in the A.V. Antique Car Club in which he and Lois were very active. He was a member of a motorcycle club and was a 60 year member of the Elks in Lancaster. He will be greatly missed by his family and many friends. Survived by his loving wife of 43 years Lois Coltzau, sister Betty Spotts, nephews Tom and Jerry Spotts, children Ron Johnson, Toni Watts, Randy (Jean) Johnson, Shelley Dennis, Laura Watters, Jackie (Bill) Stewart, grandchildren Troy, Lindy, Tina, Deana, Heidi, Jason, Alex, Becky, Crystal, Sandy, Alina, Anthony, Ashley, Katie and Sarah. He also leaves behind 14 great-grandchildren. Viewing will be held from 5 to 6 p.m., Friday, June 29, 2007, at Mumaw Funeral Home. Graveside services will be held at 11 a.m., Saturday, June 30, 2007, at Joshua Memorial Park. Flowers can be delivered to Mumaw Funeral Home.
