Feb. 21, 1908 - Nov. 10, 1994

Avoca - Edna Marie Woltmann was born in Shelby County Feb. 21, 1908. She was the daughter of John and Sophia Paustian Maassen and was one of three children in the family. She attended Lincoln Township School #2 through the 8th grade and graduated from the Marian High School in 1925. She graduated from the Jennie Edmundson School of Nursing in 1932.

She married Herman Woltmann Feb. 24, 1934. They farmed in the Shelby area until 1944 when they moved to their farm west of Avoca. They were they parents of two children, Patricia and Ronald. They moved to Avoca in 1968. He died May 27, 1970. She was a member of the Trinity Lutheran church and was actively involved in the American Red Cross Bloodmobile. She died at Colonial Manors Nursing Home in Avoca Nov. 10, 1994, at age 86 years, 8 months and 19 days.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Herman, one son, Ronald, who died Jan. 1, 1983, one brother, Reimer Maassen and one sister, Lillie Woltmann. She is survived by her daughter, Patricia (Herbert) Jens of Hancock and her daughter-in-law; Kay Woltmann of Avoca, five grandchildren, five great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews and other relatives.

Funeral services were held Nov. 14, 1994 at the Trinity Lutheran Church, Avoca with Pastor Paul Bengtson and Lay Assistant Wayne Paulsen officiating. Burial was in the Graceland cemetery, Avoca. Casket bearers were Raleigh Woltmann, Norman Woltmann, David Woltmann, Harry Hansen, Allan Ronnfeldt and Craig Woltmann. Knutson Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.
