Dr. Louis J. Soltys D.D.S, 83, was reunited with our Lord on November 26th, 2012.
Born the son of Lewis and Bertha Midgzinski Soltys, in Whitesboro, NY, on August 10, 1929, Louis, the son of first generation Polish immigrants, was fluent in both Polish and English. He attended Whitesboro Central Schools where he excelled both athletically and academically. Upon his graduation from high school in 1974, Louis enrolled at Utica College of Syracuse University where he pursued his interest in the sciences, graduating in 1951 with a Bachelor of Science degree. His interests then drew him to the University at Buffalo School of Dentistry where Louis graduated a Doctor of Dental Surgery in 1955. Dr. Soltys, D.D.S. served his country as a Captain in the Air Force from 1955-1957 from which he received honorable discharge. In 1958, Dr. Soltys and the late Marianna Isabel Stuczko, a long-time registered nurse at Saint Luke’s hospital in Utica, were united in marriage. Dr. and Mrs. Soltys raised eight children and were blessed to have celebrated 50 years of marriage in 2008. Dr. Soltys operated a successful private dental practice on Clinton Street in Whitesboro for many years where he was known by many to have a special rapport with the children in his care. In 1979, Dr. Soltys continued his career as a dentist for the State of New York and worked at the Rome Developmental Disabilities Services Office until his retirement in 1994.
Dad was a voracious reader who loved to dance and shared his sharp sense of humor and easy smile with all. He was proud of his Polish heritage and the kind of man who enjoyed a good college football game and a good laugh. Dad was generous, considerate and a dedicated family man who took great pride in the accomplishments of his children and grandchildren. He was loved by all that knew him. May those whom he touched by forever blessed with the cherished memory of a happy, kind-hearted, and joyful family man. We all love you so very, very much Dad… you will truly be missed.
Dr. Louis J. Soltys is survived by one sister, Eleanor Fleming of Tonawanda, NY and his paternal cousin, Danuta Gorzinski of Utica, NY. He is also survived by his eight children and their spouses: Mark and Lisa Soltys Soja, Louis and Karen Soltys, Robert and Karen Soltys Corriero, Richard Soltys, Eric and Valencia Soltys, Vito and Traci Soltys Matterese, Susan Gurdo, Mikal Soltys, many nieces and nephews and thirteen beloved grandchildren. In honoring the wishes of our father, there will be no calling hours. A private funeral service and burial will take place at a later date at the convenience of family.
