Billy Don Ledbetter was born October 23, 1934 in Ropesville. He married Edrie Burns on December 31, 1955 who preceded him in death on May 4, 2003.
He worked for the USPS for thirty years, but his real passion was sports. He got involved with football officiating in 1963 and remained active until he retired in 2003. He was the recipient of the Curly Hays Official Award from the Texas High School Coaches Association. Bill also received the Outstanding Official Award in 2003.
Bill is survived by wife, Wanda Turner Ledbettter, whom he married June 18, 2004. He leaves behind a brother, Bobby Ledbetter and his wife Charlene of Phoenix, AZ. He is also survived by his children, Donna Pearson and her husband Mark: Ricky Ledbetter and his wife Angee and Randy Ledbetter all of Lubbock; seven grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. Survivors also include 4 stepdaughters, and their husbands and 11 step-grandchildren.
In Lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial donations are made to the SFOA "Bill Ledbetter Scholarship Fund" to benefit local athletes c/o Mike Box, PO Box 853, Sundown, TX 79372.
