One of the first leaders of Jasper County MO. in 1841. It is said he was a settler in the area before 1840.
It is said he fought in the Civil War and was called Captain Nelson afterwards.

Nelson was the founder of the old Knight Station, Carthage MO. Married Selena La Rue in Cairo IL. They had 5 children.

It is said in the family that Nelson may have been born on 6-17-1809 instead of 12-17-1809.
