Mr. Steve Lewis “Bubba”, age 69 of Adrian, gained his angel wings on Sunday morning, July 28, 2019.

Born in Fort Benning, he was the eldest of three children born to the late Fred Ray Lewis and Juanita Laverne Smith Lewis.

He graduated from Elbert County High School, Class of 1968. He later attended Truett McConnell and Breneau University where he graduated with a Bachelor Degree in Criminal Justice and Psychology. Steve began a career with the Georgia Department of Corrections in 1970. He worked through various assignments until serving and retiring in 2004 as Warden at Frank Scott State Prison in Milledgeville with thirty-four years of total service. From 1985 until the mid 1990s, Steve served as the Scout Leader for Boy Scout Troop 660 in Demorest. After moving to Adrian, he served the citizens of Adrian as their Mayor.

Steve was an avid fisherman; he loved old western movies, playing his acoustic guitar, listening to Southern Gospel Music, and spending time with his family.

He was a member of and Deacon at Orianna Baptist Church.

Steve leaves behind his wife, Emily Mimbs Lewis; children, Melissa McClellon (Daryl) of Cornelia, Jason Lewis (Tonya) of Lexington; siblings, Sandra Webb (Gary) of Colbert, Kevin Lewis (Kelly) of Elberton, Ray Allen Lewis (Angela) of Greenville, SC; grandchildren, Wesley McClellon, Peyton Lewis, Tyler Burrell, Gannon Williford; several nieces and nephews, and countless extended family, coworkers and friends that will cherish the memories of his life.

Funeral services will be conducted at 11:00 am on Tuesday, July 30th in the Williams Chapel of Sammons Funeral Home with Darrell Hart, Reverend Gene Currin, and Reverend Arthur Conley officiating. Steve will be laid to rest in the family plot in Westview Cemetery, Soperton. His family will receive friends on Monday from 6:00 – 8:00 pm at the funeral home. Serving as pallbearers will be Frank Daniel, Hayden Youmans, Nick Lewis, Nate Lewis, Les Salter, Gregory Mason, Ronnie Youmans, Brian Watts and Ricky Hilburn. Serving as honorary pallbearers will be former and current employees of the Georgia Department of Corrections, as well as members of the law enforcement community.
