Walter was a “travelin man” who wore many hats in many different fields in many states. He loved his immediate & extended family, his many cousins, aunts, uncles and his Christian brothers and sisters at Handsboro. More than anything, he loved his Savior Jesus and strived to always attend Sunday School and church. He loved to sing praises to His King. Walter touched so many lives throughout his life that he was unaware of the impact he made on many. He had a compassion, love and willingness to serve the children at Handsboro, the less fortunate within and outside the church, or anyone he encountered that was in need of something. In fact, Walter was willing to serve anywhere, anyone or anytime when asked. Although he got frustrated with himself at times for his mistakes or others, he truly wanted to act or respond like Jesus. His own realization at his imperfection, like us, was sometimes his own worse enemy, but he never quit trying to help. Walter loved people.
For about 15 years, Walter traveled less across state lines and finally, thru the influence of his step-father and mom, settled down with a place of his own in Gulfport. Walter continued, however, to travel the entire Gulf Coast with his noticeable red and white igloo thermos, baseball cap and, when necessary, his Miami Hurricanes jacket.
Most all establishments in one way or another had encountered Mr. Walter. Many were amazed at Walter’s uncanny ability to remember details and occurrences and facts. He was full of knowledge, more than most people would expect. He always had a welcoming spirit and would often entertain others with witty one liners or anecdotes which matched his Rodney Dangerfield appearance.
Walter tried to be a true gentleman and tried hard to never hold a grudge. Walter was truly one of a kind and his departure in the flesh will surely be a source of sadness, but one of great joy as you focus on him receiving his crown from King Jesus.
Walter was preceded in death by his parents Ezra Hagin Jr. and Doris Hagin Ivie and stepfather Jim Ivie. He was also preceded in death by nephews Joseph Ezra O’Bryan and Lance Shelton Hagin.
He is survived by one sister and three brothers who are Linda (Ray) O’Bryan, Billy Wayne Hagin, Boyd Hagin and Lance Hagin and many other relatives.
A special thanks goes to the ICU staff at the Memorial Hospital for treating Walter with such skill, compassion and love while he fought the good fight. The same can be said for the many doctors and staffs that displayed extraordinary care and patience while serving Walter’s needs. Lastly, many thanks to the family, individuals and businesses that served Walter throughout the years with love and God-filled understanding at just how truly unique Walter was.
