He was preceded in death by his four siblings.
Following retirement from Columbia Carolina, Carroll worked for Oxygen Plus where he enjoyed assisting senior citizens. An avid gardener, he loved going to the beach. Most of all, Carroll loved his grandchildren. He attended Ashworth Road Baptist Church in Marion.
He is survived by his wife, Lois Ledbetter Hawkins; one daughter, Melissa Wilson (Terry) of Bakersville; one son, Steven Hawkins (Katherine) of Grand Canyon, Arizona; one brother, KB Hawkins (Lois); and his two special grandchildren, Eleanor Hawkins and Miranda Wilson. Carroll is also survived by special nephew, David Hawkins, along with numerous nieces and nephews; and his childhood friends, Howard Revis, Steve Kanipe, Stanley Calhoun and John Simmons.
A graveside service will be held on Tuesday, July 30, 2019 at 11:00 a.m. at Oak Grove Cemetery.
