James C. Steele, Sr., 78 of Rapid City died, Tuesday, August 10, 2004 at a local nursing home.

Jim was born July 7, 1926 at Belle Fourche, SD to Lawrence and Geneva Steele. He graduated from high school there and attended college for two years.

He served in the Army Air Corp during WWII, stationed in the South Pacific, including at Tinian, Guam and the Phillipines. He was a crew chief on the B29's and got to see the Enola Gay.

Jim married Bonnie Karinen after he returned from the service and to this union were born three sons.

He then married his lifelong love, Deloris M. Fall on March 2, 1960 at Casper, Wyoming and two children were born to this union. They resided in Belle Fourche and raised a family there. They located to Rapid City in 1982 from Colorado and Utah. Jim was self employed as a bridge builder for 40 years, retiring in 1980.

He was a member of the VFW, American Legion, and American Vets of Belle Fourche. Dad loved hunting with his beloved sons and son-in-law. The special girls in his life were his daughter and granddaughter.

Survivors include his daughter and husband, two sons, his sister and three grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his wife in 2001, two sons, Curtis and Clark, his sister Karen.

A special thanks to Uncle Burt, Richard, Ronnie and Heather for getting Brenda home to be with her Dad before his journey to the Heavens above.

Memorial services will be held Fri., Aug. 13, 2004 at Kirk Funeral Home's Chapel of Light in Rapid City with the Rev. Brent Woodard officiating. Inurnment will follow at Black Hills National Cemetery near Sturgis with military honors by VFW Post 1273 of Rapid City.
