Jane Plummer Lane, 86, passed away on January 17, 2022. The first full moon of the year shone high in the sky, serving as a light for her journey.

Jane (also known as Chub because she was a chubby baby) was the first child of Charles R Plummer and Fannie Yankoviz. She was born June 1, 1935, in Florence, Missouri. Yes, that's right, she wasn't born in Texas, but she got here as quickly as she could. She arrived as a young school-age child at the panhandle refinery town of Phillips. Her family came to the area for work, as did many others, in the booming oil fields of the time. She spoke fondly of her childhood in this community and was always proud to be a Phillips Blackhawk, the local school mascot. Chub played the bass drum in the school marching band in high school. She enjoyed attending and organizing annual and semi-annual school reunions throughout the years and always had stories to tell.

She married her husband Jack L Lane, also a Blackhawk, on December 31, 1953. For the first few years of their marriage, they resided in Corpus Christi, Texas, while Jack served our country in the U. S. Navy. She'd never learned to swim and quickly realized that she was no beach girl. Water terrified her! However, Jack loved fishing anytime he was off duty. Needless to say, after serving four years, the panhandle called them back with the lure of familiarity and family.

For the next 65 years, Jane called the Texas panhandle home, living most of those in Stinnett. Her three sons were the highlight of her life. Marrying into the Lane family destined her to be a mother of sons, which suited her perfectly. She loved cooking and baking for her house full of boys. There was always a bowl of chocolate chip cookies or a pan of brownies in the house. And an assortment of homemade sweet treats during the holidays. Jack had a well-known BBQ hobby, and she was his BBQ assistant wearing a T-shirt that read, "My husband smells like brisket." Raising three sons taught her to roll with the punches. Whether it was a small animal or snake brought home in a lunch box or a bicycle or motorcycle wreck, she rose to the call.

Loud motors and the smell of gasoline were never a "problem," and she enjoyed all the boys' sports. But, especially football and those Texas Friday night lights. She often served in concession stands and provided snacks for players.

She worked at the Hutchinson County extension service and thoroughly enjoyed the 4H events and livestock shows. The relationships she built with the kids and the agents gave her joy. She was a Stinnett United Methodist Church member and active in the quilting group.

She loved camping in New Mexico and Colorado's mountains and fancied herself as a backpacker. For three decades, Jane enjoyed driving her 1970's VW Bug. Saying it was one of the saddest times of her life when she sold it last year, even though she had not driven it in years. Two of her favorite compliments were being called a "badass" by her granddaughter and a "tough ole bird" by Casey.

Jane is survived by her three sons Casey, Dennis, and Hoppy. Casey took Jo as his wife in 1974, and Jane finally got the daughter she wanted. Jo was with her until the very end. They live in Amarillo near daughter Nikki, her husband Randy, and their children Hannah and Hunter. Dennis, and his wife Kelley, live in Dripping Springs with their sons Brody and Cooper. Hoppy is married to Liz, and they reside in Austin with their daughter Eden. She cherished her five grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. Also surviving is her brother-in-law Dave Lane. She is preceded in death by her husband Jack and her grandson Conner.

Services will be held Thursday, January 20 at 11:00 a.m. at the United Methodist Church in Stinnett, TX. Donations can be made to the United Methodist Church in Stinnett or the Herrington Cancer Center in Amarillo in lieu of flowers.
