Charles W. “Bill” Amend’s life began on August 9, 1927 in Sterling, KS; the son of Bruce and Laura (Proffitt) Amend.

Bill faithfully served his country in the United States Navy during WWII and the Korean War. During WWII he served on a transport ship, bringing Marines to fight in the Pacific. He was a Coxswain and drove an LSVP landing boat with Marines to the beaches and transported wounded back to the ship.

He was united in marriage to Virginia Penrod on December 19, 1957 in Las Vegas, NV.

Bill enjoyed fishing and camping. He was a member of the El Dorado Car Club and had a deep love for classic cars. He was always taking part in his children’s activities whether it was coaching little league or helping with the Cub Scouts. Bill also enjoyed Civil War history and participating in Civil War reenactments.

His greatest joy was his family which includes his wife, Virginia of El Dorado; children Mike (Joanne) Amend of Miami Beach, FL, Brad (Amy) Amend of El Dorado, Tina (Frank) Martorana of Castle Rock, CO; grandchildren Jennifer (Justin) Manning, Clarissa O’Neill; great-grandchildren Aiden, Dawson, Dalton and Kaylee; and sister Connie Green of Sterling, KS.

Bill, 91, passed away on July 23, 2019 in El Dorado. He is preceded in death by his parents and brothers Bob, Don, Pete, Rex and Larry Amend.

Friends may gather with the family from 12-2 p.m. on Monday, July 29 at the Trinity Episcopal Church for visitation, and a Requiem (service) will be held at 2 p.m. Bill will be laid to rest at Walnut Valley Memorial Park with full military honors.
