William Fred Moorhead, son of William H. and Rebeca (sic) A. Moorhead, was born on a farm southeast of Deweese, Nebraska, and departed this life at his home in Nelson, Nebraska Sunday afternoon at flour o'clock, July 29, 1945.

He had his early schooling in Michigan and when yet a young man he enlisted in the United States army (sic) at Philadelphia, February 2d, 1899, for Military Service for a term of three years. Was assigned to I troop, 2nd Regiment of the Cavalry, February 5th at Camp A.G. Tott, Huntsville, Alabama, and left the States soon for Cuba where he served his entire enlistment, and was discharged at Powell Barracks February 1st, 1902 with an honorable discharge. From his service in the army he returned to Somerset, Ky., where he met Miss Marie B. Ware, who became his wife on May 28, 1904. To this union two sons were born: Dale and Paul of Omaha, Nebraska. He said that they were the pride and joy of his life.

Fred became a member of the Christian Church when a young man in Somerset, Ky., and after making his home near Nelson, he placed his membership with the Nelson Christian Church. He taught in the Sunday School and at one time had a very large class of young people. He was also an Elder of the church, serving as such for the past thirty or thirty-five years.

Mr. Moorhead was a member of Nelson Lodge No. 77 A.F. & A.M. He also was a charter member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars at Superior, Nebraska, and a member of the Nelson Chamber of Commerce.

He leaves to mourn his passing his wife, the two sons and wives, three grandchildren, eight brothers and sisters, other relatives and a host of friends.

Funeral services were held Tuesday afternoon at the Christian church (sic) Rev. C.M. Foust officiating. A double mixed quartet: Mrs. Maxine Olderog, Mrs. Harold Wood, Mrs. Ross Clem, Mrs. Verna Peery, E.E. Hedgcock (Edgar), Ollie M. Aikin, J.E. Portwood, and F.A. Scheringer (sic), sang with Mrs. J.E. Ingram at the piano. Burial was in the Nelson cemetery (sic), where the Masons and Foreign War veterans presided.
