James E. Bowman, 88, St. Joseph, Mo., was born in Winston, Mo., the son of Dewey and Mable (Willits) Bowman, on May 28, 1931. He passed away on July 25, 2019, in St. Joseph.

He married Mary L. (Brant) Elliott on March 12, 1988. He graduated from the Winston High School in 1949. James was drafted into the Army in May of 1952 and was a veteran of the Korean War. After his service, he farmed and later went to work at the Stride Rite Shoe Factory in Hamilton for 36 years until retirement. He was a member of the Fairview Church.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Dewey and Mable Bowman; Sisters-Dollie Jones and Wilma Katherine Bowman Johnson; and Brothers-Donald, Lloyd, Junior and Merlin Bowman.

Survivors: Wife-Mary, of the home; step-daughter-Diana Elliott; step-son-James E. Elliott; grandsons-Willie Blair and Wesley Elliott.

Graveside Service: 2 p.m., Saturday, July 27, 2019, at the Cope Cemetery, Weatherby, MO.
