Laura Lee Bentley, 102, passed away on July 25th, 2019 at the Great River Klein Center in West Burlington. She was a long-time resident of Mediapolis, moving there with her family in 1950. Laura Lee was a homemaker until her children were older, then she was the Mediapolis First United Methodist Church secretary and worked as a receptionist and secretary for Dr. Fred Roules for several years. After she and husband Bruce retired, they enjoyed traveling and camping especially in the national parks, including a hike into the Grand Canyon when they were in their mid-60s.
Laura Lee Uhl was born on March 16, 1917 in Wheatland, near Dallas, Texas. She was the eighth of nine children born to Emma Balch and Charles Uhl. She married Bruce Bentley, Sr. on July 9, 1942 in the Wheatland Methodist Church. She was preceded in death by her husband Bruce on October 28th, 2000, her parents, her siblings (4 brothers, 3 of whom died in childhood; 4 sisters, one of whom also died in childhood) and two young sons (Charles and David). Also preceding her was her only nephew, James Lawrence.
Laura Lee was active in the Mediapolis First United Methodist Church, the Girl Scouts, the American Legion Auxiliary and the Mediapolis Library Book Club.
