Mrs. Emma A. "Boots" Powell Underwood NeeSmith, age 74, Vidalia, died Friday, June 7 2002, in the Meadows Regional Medical Center.

The Wheeler Co. native was the daughter of the late Abraham and Emma S. Powell. She had resided in Vidalia until moving to the Bethany Nursing Home Center two years ago. She was a retired restaurant and lounge owner, and was preceded in death by her daughter, Edith "Delane" Powell, and five siblings.

Survivors include her husband, Earl D. NeeSmith, Cedar Crossing; three daughters, Sheila Jenkins, Vidalia, Sylvia Mazza, Port Wentworth, and Alisa Pittman, Reidsville; five sons, Kenneth Lamb, Richmond Hill, Jack Gregory Lamb, Ivey, Ray Lamb, Petross, Van Lamb, Mt. Vernon, and Michael W. Lamb, Smyrna; two brothers, Talmadge Lamar "Bunk" Powell, Eulonia, and Jack Dempsey Powell, Lyons; 25 grandchildren; 33 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.

Funeral services were conducted Monday, June 12, 2002 at 3:00 p.m. in the Ronnie L. Stewart Family Funeral Service Chapel of Vidalia with the Rev. Steven Toole officiating. Interment followed in Pinecrest Cemetery, with music and song performed by nephews: Henry Lamb of Ivey, Roy Lamb of Macon, and Jody Lamb of Ivey. Active pallbearers were Dewitt Powell, Paul Goff, Glen Phillips, Pete Horton, Chris Powell and Charles Carpenter. Honorary pallbearers were Wiley Palmer, Thurston Fulford, Helen Barfield, Frances Williams, Ruth Palmer, and Quincey McCoy.
