Jerry J. Tieffel, 70 of Effingham died at 1:16 a.m. Monday, Jan. 17, 2011, at St. Anthony's Memorial Hospital, Effingham. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at Watson Baptist Church, Watson, with the Rev Kent Robinson officiating. Interment will be at a later date. Visistation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Wednesday at Johnson Funeral Home, Effingham. Memorials may be made t Watson Baptist Church.

Jerry was born on Dec. 20 1940, in Effingham, the son of Melvin and Mary Lucille (Campbell) Tieffel. He married Paula Anderson on Dec. 31, 1986, in Effingham, and she survives. Jerry was a veteran of the U.S. Navy. He was retired from World Color Press Bindery Department in Effingham after 28 years of service. He loved his family. He also loved playing the guitar. He was affiliated with Watson Baptist Church. He is survived by his wife, Paula of Effingham; daughter, Sandra (Thomas) Williams of St. Elmo; stepsons, Eiric Dunaway of Livingston, Tenn., and Ryan (Brandi Vodurie) Dunaway of Herrick; grandchildren, Kristine, Sebastian and Skylar; stepgrandchildren, Taylor, Kendyll, Ashlyn and Brody; great-grandchildren, Baylee and Madily; and siblings, Dixie Kuhn of Brandon, Fla., Shirley (Bud) Vonderheide of Stewardson, Mickey (Jerry) Koester of Teutopolis, Sandra (Don) Bingman of Effingham, Robert (Gloria) Tieffel of Jackson, Tenn., Kent Tieffel of Effingham, Don (Chris) Tieffel of Effingham, Priss (Ed) Stephens of Effingham, Dennis Tieffel of Effingham, Debbie (Lyle) Kirby of Wheeler, David (Diane) Tieffel of Effingham, Dianna (Nathan) Jones of Effingham, Doug (Nila) Tieffel of Teutopolis, Jim Tieffel of Effingham and Becky (Tim Finfrock) Tieffel of Effingham. He was preceded in death by his parents, and twin infant siblings.
