Senator Jensen was born in Marquette on April 19, 1898 to Carl and Elise Hansen Jensen. He graduated from Central City High School in 1917. After serving in the infantry in World War I, he attended college for two years. He married Helen Christensen on April 5, 1922 in Kronborg.
Sen. Jensen served in the Nebraska Unicameral legislature from 1957-1961, chairing the agriculture committee. He was later elected mayor of Aurora, Nebraska and served for eight years.
He managed the Nebraskans for (John F.) Kennedy campaign in 1960 and Robert F. Kennedy's presidential campaign in Nebraska during 1968.
