ATHENS- Stacy Vaughn Phillips, age 93 of Athens died Wednesday evening, Aug. 23, 2017 at Kobacker House in Columbus. Born March 5, 1924 in Lawrence County, he was the son of the late Stacy C. & Ada Ann Sharp Phillips.

He was a U.S. Army Air Corp veteran of World War II, serving 35 flying missions with the O.S.S. in the European Theatre. He was awarded the Air Medal with 4 Oak Leaf Clusters. There are no mission brothers left, he was the last known member of the Carpetbagger crew. After Stacy's return, he graduated from Ohio University with a degree in education. He was given a call from his hometown school in New Boston, Ohio to come to teach. This he did for thirty five years. He then was a substitute schoolteacher until eighty years of age. Most of this was done in Athens County.

He has been an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints for sixty two years, holding the office of High Priest.

He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers; and two sisters.

A graveside service will be conducted Monday at 1:00 p.m. at New Marshfield Cemetery.
