Joan was the daughter of Betty and Dr. Mark Giffords of Los Angeles. She graduated from Westchester High School in 1959. She married Bill Keenan in 1963 and Dave Harrison in 1968. She attended UCLA and Cal State L.A. and was a technical writer for Parsons Engineering in Pasadena and City National Bank in Los Angeles. She is survived by her brother Bob of Hampshire, England, her son Colin Keenan of Kansas City, MO and daughters Charlene Nichols of Rosemead, CA, Renee Fried of Potomac, MD, and Allegra Harrison of Kent, England. She has seven grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

A memorial service is being held at the Wayfarer's Chapel in Palos Verdes, CA at 6pm on Sunday July 28 2019. The beauty of the setting serves as a visual poem to Joan, an extraordinary woman whose kindness, altruism, curiosity, intellect, and love for people and all living things has touched many hearts and minds. She has passed down a wealth of love, knowledge, stories, poetry and values, which shall continue to be passed on to future generations and live on through eternity.
