A gentle and caring lady has passed, leaving her family, friends and the entire local community stunned and silent. Judy Holmes Shaw was the beloved wife of Tommy Shaw of Jasper, mother of Tripp (Erin) Shaw of Jasper and Cooper Lawson Shaw of Smyrna, grandmother of Grayson Thomas Shaw and was happily awaiting the birth of Emma Kate Shaw. She loved her "boys" fiercely and adored her grandchildren. Judy is also survived by her sister, Janet Davis of Ellijay and brother and sister-in-law, Ricky and Connie Holmes of Talking Rock, sisters- in-law, Martha Shaw of Canton and Kathy Amos of Gainesville and several nieces, nephews and cousins and other relatives.
Judy spent her life caring for others. As a nurse at Pickens General Hospital and then Piedmont Mountainside Hospital, as well as a hospice nurse for Hospice Compassus, she was one of those nurses who saw need and met it, saw pain and relieved it, who gave care and concern far beyond her job description.
She will be remembered by the Creek Gang, as the one always with a listening ear and a Bandaid, whose laugh could thrill the hearts of all her friends. She could ride a motorcycle (holding on to her beloved Tommy) , dress a wound or help her husband fix barbecue for hundreds. Her heart was always with her community and those she loved.
She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Jasper. Judy truly could say that she walked the valley of the shadow of death with so many in the community and with her family, but she feared no evil, because her Lord was always with her. She was, indeed, a light to everyone who knew her.
A gathering of family and friends will be held at Roper Funeral Home, Jasper on Wednesday, July 24, 2019 from 5:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m.
A Memorial Service will be held 3:00 p.m., Saturday, July 27, 2019 at the First Baptist Church of Jasper.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Piedmont Mountainside Auxiliary for the Judy Shaw Scholarship Fund.
Arrangements are entrusted to the staff of Roper Funeral Home & Crematory in Jasper.
