Michael Anthony “Tony” Salter passed away peacefully on Saturday, April 20, 2019 surrounded by his loving daughters. He had a full life of 79 years, and raised an adoring family.
On Wednesday, April 24th, a wake in Tony’s honor will begin at 10:00am, followed by a funeral service at 1:00pm at the Norman Dean Home for Services, Denville, NJ. Interment for Tony will follow services at Pleasant Hill Cemetery, Chester, NJ. Donations in his name may be made to the Denville Volunteer Fire Department who assisted in Tony’s care this past year. Additionally, in lieu of flowers, the family asks for donations to the ASPCA, as Tony’s beloved dog Sushi was rescued prior to Ethel’s passing and served as a loving companion to Tony.
Tony was born in Launton, England, to the late Edward (Ted) and Mary Ellen (Nelly) Salter. After emigrating to Canada from England, he met Ethel Lafferty at work in Montreal, Quebec. After a brief courtship, Tony and Ethel married and then settled in Toronto where they raised their three daughters – which is where their family legacy began. Ethel stated, “I never knew what love was until I met Tony.”
Tony and Ethel devoted much of their lives to creating a loving home. Tony was a special man and was very proud of his three girls and worked hard to provide for his family. He was patient, kind, and constant in his unconditional love.
Tony is now reunited with his wife Ethel (predeceased); and leaves behind a wonderful legacy of love with his daughters Pamela Salter (Brian Zachary), Karen Scornavacca (Steve) and Cheryl Granito (Mark); and his grandchildren – Kaitlin Hoffman, Lauren and Michael Scornavacca; Harper, Kayla and Ellie Granito (born just 12 days prior to his passing); and Sarah, Andrew and Emma Zachary; and loyal dog Sushi, and loving sister-in-law Kathie Wall and nephews Kevin, Jamie and their families; and many more dear and loving friends and relatives.
