David Edward Ludy, loving son, brother, husband, father, and grandfather went to heaven on July 16, 2019 to join his parents, daughter, Kimberly and son-in-law, Paul, along with many other family and friends who went before him.
David, a slow speaking, soft-hearted, humorist with a passion for the plight of anyone in need, left behind a family who adored him and surrounded him with love until his last breath. He loved the magic found in nature, hiking, x-c skiing, fishing, camping and travel. He ingrained in his children a sense of global responsibility for their fellow man and an example of what a loving father truly represents. He took great joy in all of the simple pleasures of life; ice cream, cookies, a great piece of chocolate, his Golden Retriever dogs, funny hats, and rides on kiddie toys. He was an accomplished chef and a Master Gardener.
Growing up on a farm in Michigan, David learned the importance of hard work and scraping to get by with very little. In 1968 he moved his entire family to Seattle to work for the United Church of Christ and fulfill a deep-seated wish to help others. In following years he continued his work as Director of the Multiple Sclerosis Society and Fundraising for the Kairos Lutheran Ministries. He was politically active as an advocate for "the people" and worked diligently as an environmentalist. Before and after his retirement he volunteered his service for many different organizations on Whidbey Island where he lived for 15 years.
A sports fan, David enjoyed watching games played by his Alma Mater, Michigan State, the Seattle Seahawks and the Seattle Mariners (which may be a good reason to go be with God at this time).
David maintained his singularly unique sense of humor his entire life and was known to laugh the hardest at his own jokes until his eyes watered, scanning his audience to see if they thought it as funny as he did.
David's parents Edward and Virginia Ludy are home with the Lord to greet him. Carrying on his legacy, David leaves behind his two brothers Richard Ludy and Paul Ludy, sister Lora Kleis, loving wife of 40 years, Corinne Roberts-Ludy, and step-daughter Sarah George, former wife Patricia Ann Olsen, his children Colleen Spirelis, Scott Ludy, and Craig Ludy. He enjoyed spending time with his eleven grandchildren and seven great grandchildren.
This amazing man will be missed by so many but he made an indelible mark on the world before he left it. The memories he has given us and the examples he set have left the world a better place.
