Phyllis was born Nov. 21, 1935, in Muskegon, to the late Wallace G. and Gladys L. (Johnson) Beattie. She graduated from Muskegon High School in 1955. In 1967, while working in Grand Rapids, she met the love of her life, Richard Walters. They married and she moved to his home in Allegan.
Phyllis enjoyed making and decorating cakes for all occasions, crocheting baby afghans, working on the tram during the Allegan County Fair for more than 30 years and hunting for those wonderful morels. Her love and devotion for her family always shown through in all that she did.
Phyllis is survived by her husband of 51 years, Richard; daughters, Michelle Walters of Otsego and Claudette Walters of Paw Paw; step-children, Lucy and Rex Strasser of Florida and David Walters of Kalamazoo; several grandchildren and great-grandchildren; her sister Marie Kutz of Allegan; and many brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, nieces and nephews.
Along with her parents, she was preceded in death by her brother Ronald O. Beattie of Casper, Wyo., and many other loved ones.
Friends met with the family on Wednesday, May 16, from 5 to 7 p.m. at Gorden Funeral Residence, Allegan Chapel. Funeral services were held on Thursday, May 17 at 11 a.m. with one hour visitation prior, with Comer Skinner officiated. Interment will be at Hudson Corners Cemetery, Allegan Township.
