Jack was born March 16, 1927, at Bismarck, to Harry and Bernice (Davis) Paul. He was raised and educated in Bismarck before joining the US Navy in World War II. After discharge in 1946, he attended the University of North Dakota until 1949, when he accepted a commission in the US Army and served in Europe for four years. He was awarded a Certificate of Appreciation for his leadership in directing rescue and relief operations during the Great Flood of the Netherlands in February 1953.
While attending the University of North Dakota he met Mary Ann (Mitzi) Langness and they were married in 1955, while he was still in school. He graduated in 1956, with a BS degree and in 1957, from UND Law School. He worked at the North Dakota State Penitentiary as a counselor and Director of Programs until 1989, when he retired. In 1975, he started the family treatment program within the penitentiary, and he received his Master Addiction Counselor training at Heartview Foundation under the direction of Dr. Olav Gardebring.
Since his retirement in 1989, Mitzi and Jack enjoyed traveling overseas and attending Elderhostel programs around the country. They resided in Mandan until 2016 when Mitzi passed away. Jack moved to Minneapolis area shortly thereafter to be near his sons Bill and Steve. His greatest joy was his family and music.
He is survived by his sons, Bill (Stephanie) and Steve (Ann) of Minneapolis, MN.
Jack was preceded in death by his parents; and brother Ernie.
