Born Monday, November 18, 1946, in Baltimore, MD, she was the daughter of the late John “Jack” Willet Young and the late Edna B. (Campbell) Young.
She graduated from North Hagerstown High School in 1964.
Mary worked at the Washington County Hospital, retiring after 43 years of service on the Behavioral Health Unit of Meritus.
She was a member of the Auxiliary Unit at the Funkstown American Legion Post 211 and St. Paul’s Lutheran Church of Funkstown, where she was involved with various committees.
Mary enjoyed spending time baking and crafting for many local organizations.
She is survived by her husband, Richard Shipley; son, Edward Potts; daughter, Gwen Barron and husband, Scott; two grandsons, Jeremy Barron and wife, Jennifer, and Joshua Barron; granddaughter, Jillian Barron; two brothers, John Young and Ernest Young; and sister, Linda Lewis, and their families.
She was preceded in death by her infant sister, Brenda Young.
Services will be held Friday, July 12, 2019, at 10 a.m. at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, 24 E. Baltimore St., Funkstown, MD, with Pastor Lee Brumback and Pastor Darrell Layman officiating.
Family will receive friends at Douglas A. Fiery Funeral Home, 1331 Eastern Blvd. North, Hagerstown, MD 21742 on Thursday, July 11, 2019, from 7 to 9 p.m.
Interment will be in Cedar Lawn Memorial Park, Hagerstown.
