Peter George Rolheiser

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Peter Rolheiser on Wednesday, January 8, 2014 at the age of 91 years, in the presence of his beloved wife, Agnes and family.

Peter was born near Luseland, SK on March 5, 1922, the seventh of eleven children. The family moved to Goodsoil, where Peter grew up and worked various jobs before he left for Alberta to work for his brother-in-law at his logging camp in Robb.

In 1948 Peter met the love of his life, Agnes. They were married in 1951 and moved to Edmonton.

Peter took a job that would turn into a 35 year career with CW Carry as an Equipment and Crane Operator. Peter’s family was always first to him – in 1954, his son, Ronnie came along, followed by his daughter, Darlene. The next many years were busy but wonderful: many trips to the hockey rink where he helped as a coach; trips to the lake; and family vacations to SK and the US to visit relatives.

After his retirement, Peter enjoyed spending time in his garden and gathering inventory to sell at the many garage sales he and Agnes had over the years and also helping many friends and relatives with their sales. Peter had many good neighbours and friends and he cherished those relationships. Peter’s love for children was always obvious and he truly loved his grandchildren and their friends growing up near him, and cherished his great grandchildren.

Peter leaves his loving wife, Agnes; daughter, Darlene (Andy); grandson, Cory (Kim); granddaughter, Paulette (Sean); great grandchildren, Calli, Ryan, Corbin and Teagan; sister, Rose (Vic); sisters-in-law, Marg, Dee and Rosie (Ed); brother-in-law, Wes; as well as many cousins, nieces and nephews.

Peter was predeceased by nine of his siblings; and most sadly to Peter, his son, Ronnie.

Peter led a full and happy life and his legacy will live on in his family as they pledge to celebrate their special moments with their Papa Pete!

A Prayer Service will be held at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday, January 15, 2014 at Connelly-McKinley Funeral Home, 10011 – 114 Street, Edmonton. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, January 16, 2014 at Our Lady of Good Help Catholic Church (formally Immaculate Heart), 9809 – 76 Avenue, Edmonton.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Critical Care at the Mazankowski Alberta Heart Institute, c/o the University Hospital Foundation, 8440 – 112 Street NW, Edmonton AB, T6G 2B7.
