Cpl US Marine Corps

He was one of five crew members of a KC-130J tanker and the pilot of an F/A-18 Hornet who were killed in a midair collision during a nighttime training mission over the Sea of Japan. The Hornet's weapons officer was the sole survivor. Both aircraft were based at Marine Corps Air Station Iwakuni, and the tanker was assigned to Marine Aerial Refueler Transport Squadron 152, 1st Marine Aircraft Wing, with the call sign "Sumo."

Among his military awards and decorations are the National Defense Service Medal and the Global War on Terrorism Service Medal.

He was predeceased by his grandfathers, Jimmy R Clenney and William Henry "Dub" or "WH" Ross; and a grandmother, Linda Kaye Carter Ross. He was survived by his parents; two sisters; a grandmother; a great-grandparent; and many aunts, uncles, and cousins.

Memorial visitation and services were held on Saturday, December 22, 2018 at Long Hollow Baptist Church, Hendersonville, TN. Interment at Middle Tennesse State Veterans Cemetery.
