In Dranesville, Fairfax county, Virgiia, on Tuesday the 18th instant, after a short but severe illness, Miss Ann Maria Louisa Drane, eldest daughter of W Drane, Esq, deceased. Her sufferings were borne with suitable patience and renigation. She was a lady of high toned feelings and noble sentiments posessing all these qualifications best calculated to endear a woman to the circle in which her lot is cut. She has left a fond doting mother, and affectinate and devoted sisters and brothers, with a very numerous circle of friends and acquaintances to lament her death and irreparable loss. A Friend

March 23, 2010 - still trying to figure out her relationships.

Sept 6, 2011 - from Larry:

Suggestion: I believe I may have the answers you are looking for although it's a bit sketchy and was taken from information that the Parks Department gave to me. She is mentioned in "Dumbarton, Dranesville, Virginia" by Charles Preston Poland, Jr. May 1974 Fairfax, VA.

She was the daughter of James Washington Drane b. 1790 d. 1832 and Ann Maria Dade b. 1797 d. 1855.

She married John B. Farr and they had three children.

The Dranesville Inn is named because her father started the first in that area when he left Washington DC in 1810. He was also the first Postmaster for Fairfax County. Her husband's family actually built the Dranesville Inn that the area is named for today.

"My God! My Children, what can I say to you of this precious heritage, this proud record - worth all of life to live for - more than to commend it to your sacred keeping and invoke you to pass it on down to posterity, inviolate and unbroken. This can only be done by always holding integrity and honor above price - always doing right. Speak the truth under all circumstances and do as you would be done by." - Merritt Drane, Sr. 1893
