E.C. Pelen Barbosa, 83, St. Joseph, passed away Saturday, July 1, 2006 at his home surrounded by his family.
Mr. Barbosa was born Feb. 6, 1923 in St. Joseph, where he emained a lifelong resident.
He was a member of Cathedral of St. Joseph, Mir House of Prayer, Saint Joseph Council No. 571 and Saint Joseph General Assembly No 569.
Pelen was also part of the Cathedral funeral team and mass set-up, he was a lecor, and Extraordinary Minister of the Holy Eucharist, he trained altar servers and was a greeter and usher.
Pelen was a vereran of th U.S.Army having served during WWII. On Nov. 9, 1946 he married Dixie Gentry, in St. Joseph.
Mr. Barbosa worked for the USDA as a meat inspector, served as the public administrator from 1977 to 1985 and he owned and operated Barbosa's Castillo.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Mauricio and Francis (Cruz) Barbosa; three infant children, Reginia, Espiridion, and Thomas Barbosa; son Stephen J Barbosa; and sister,Lupe Cathcart.
Survivors: wife, Dixie Barbosa, of the home; daughter, Judith Wain, Green Valley, Ariz; five brothers, Jesse Barbosa, Merced Barbosa, Faustino Barbosa, all of St. Joseph, Jason Barbosa, Maryville, Mo., Ricardo Barbosa,Virginia Beach, Va., five sisters, Ruth Curtin, Julia Burris, both of St. Joseph, Christina Torres, Austin, Texas, Mary Helen White, Baton Rouge, La., Bernie Ceglenski, Helena, Mo.; six grandchildren, Blake Barbosa, Daisy(Tony) Frisch, Tony, Poppy (Jeff) Sullivan, Ryan Barbosa, Luke Heitman, and Garvin Heitman; five great grandchildren, Tanner Simpson-Barbosa, Parker Heitman-Cox, Espiridion Reid Sullivan, Lily Sullivan and Beckett Frisch; Aunt Socorro Rodriguez and husband Lolo; and numerous nieces and nephews.
