Grace Devota Hunt, the eldest child of John Anderson Hunt and Grace Estelle Yearwood Hunt, was born in Kansas City, Missouri, on January 30, 1923.
The family home was at Poteau, LeFlore County, Oklahoma. When Devota was six years old the family moved to Sequoyah County, Oklahoma, where they lived a short while at Marble City before moving to Sallisaw in that county.
Devota attended grades 1-6 in Sallisaw. When the family moved to Page, LeFlore County, Oklahoma, she completed grades 7 and 8.
On March 15, 1936 the family moved to Talihina, Oklahoma, and took over management of the Commercial Hotel. Devota attended high school at Talihina and graduated in May 1941.
In 1942, Devota moved to Southern California where she joined in the War effort. She was first employed by Rohr Aircraft Corporation at Chula Vista, California, in the spot-weld assembly department. From 1944 to 1946 she worked as an operator for the San Diego Transit Authority.
During this period she met Frank Burk, whom she married at Eugene, Oregon in 1946. Their occupations took them to a variety of geographic areas, including Oregon, California, Arizona, Oklahoma, Arkansas, Nebraska, and Texas.
Beginning in 1958 they also lived in California; Florida; and Puerto Rico. From 1962 to 1975 they operated a successful home building business in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma.
In 1967, Devota entered college as a freshman at Central State University at Edmond, Oklahoma, and graduated with a B.S. degree in library science in 1972. Devota was employed by the school district of Yukon, Oklahoma, as Media Specialist at the Junior/Mid-High School from 1975 until she retired in 1988.
Devota married a second time in 1988 to Edwin "Buddy" Baker of Poteau, LeFlore County, Oklahoma, and they made their home at Poteau.
Frank Burk died March 27, 1995 in El Salvador in Central America, while assisting medical doctors in missionary work. His remains were returned to Oklahoma City for interment.
Edwin "Buddy" Baker died April 5, 2005 at a medical center in Fort Smith, Arkansas. He is buried next to his first wife at Oakland Cemetery in Poteau, Oklahoma.
Devota moved to an assisted living facility in McAlester, Oklahoma, where she lived until June 26, 2007. She passed away at Heritage Hills Living Center in McAlester at the age of 84.
Devota was preceded in death by her parents; both husbands; brother John Hunt, and sisters Lela Jaggers and Margaret Hunt.
Funeral services were held at Grace Manor Memorial Chapel in Poteau with Tim Trent officiating. Burial was at Elmwood Cemetery in Hartshorne under the direction of Grace Manor Funeral Home of Poteau.
