arol Ann Hayes passed away peacefully on July 7, 2019. She was born February 28, 1928, the daughter of Roche McCauley and Josaphine Smith. A life-long resident of Battle Creek she was a member of the Saint Philip Parish and Saint Martha’s Circle. Carol returned to college at the age of 52 to become a registered nurse, and she worked at Calhoun County Medical Care Facility and Mercy Pavilion until she was 74. She enjoyed painting, Bridge, the Barn Theater and volunteering with Habitat for Humanity. She travelled extensively throughout the United States and abroad. Italy was her favorite place to travel and she had a private audience with the Pope twice!
Carol is survived by her Children: Judith Saylor, Susan Hayes, Patricia Heffernan and John Hayes (Tina). Grandchildren: William, Gregory and Brian Saylor, Matthew Hayes, Jessica Sayre, Charles Lufsey, Christopher and Angela Heffernan, Brittney, Brooke and Baylee Hayes. Great-grandchildren: Sennen and Brianna Saylor, Aliyah Solis, Joe and Alex Lufsey, Carley and Alivia Gaskell, Tyler Sayre, and Lincoln is on the way. Sister Virginia Hendrickson and a host of nieces and nephews. Her extended family at CCMCF who gave back so much that she gave to others: excellent care, compassion, and respect with an enormous dose of love
Carol was preceded in death by her husband, Cecil N Hayes, sons Richard and Thomas, grandson Joseph Heffernan, siblings Maureen Pelter, Jean Staib and Roche McCauley.

Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated by Rev. Fr. John Fleckenstein at St. Philip Roman Catholic Church at 11:00 AM on Thursday, July 11th. Interment will follow at Memorial Park Cemetery. Arrangements by Bachman Hebble Funeral Service 269-965-5145.
