Orvil Ellis Rich, 102, of Webb City, Missouri, passed away Thursday morning, July 18, 2019, in Joplin, Missouri.
Orvil was born on March 31, 1917, in Webb City, Missouri, to the union of the late Charles Dayton and Ruth (Simington) Rich. He attended grade school in Webb City. Orvil enlisted in the U.S. Army and faithfully served his country during the Korean Conflict in the South Pacific. He was awarded the “Bronze Arrowhead Philippine Liberation Ribbon with one Bronze Star” for his service. During his working years he held various farming and mining jobs, both locally and out of state. He also worked as an automotive mechanic for the former Dan Stanley Ford and retired in 1983.
He married Dorothy Mildred Stewart on October 17, 1942 in Jasper County, Missouri.
Orvil favored fair weather and would re-locate to Texas during our winters here. He enjoyed camping in his RV, fishing and making dolls.
He was preceded in death by his eldest son, Jerry L. Rich.
Survivors include four children, Margie McGhee of Webb City, Ruth Smith of Joplin, Jay Rich of Carthage and Eugena Kerr of Buffalo, Oklahoma; numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren; as well as a host of extended family members.
No formal services are planned at this time. Cremation arrangements are under the direction of Hedge-Lewis-Goodwin Funeral Home, Webb City, Missouri.
