He was preceded in death by his parents Ives Smith and Stella Hassell Smith, two brothers and four sisters. Survivors include: wife Carolyn Lawler Smith; daughter Cindy Smith; son Joseph Mark Smith; sisters Leila Mae Tant of Quartzite, Arz., and Becky Padgett of Douglasville, Ga., and brother Robert M. Smith of Jasper. A memorial was conducted Wednesday at 11 a.m. from Blackshear Place Baptist Church, Flowery Branch, Ga. with Mr. Harvey Nowland officiating. Graveside services were held later at 3:30 p.m. at State Line Baptist Church Cemetery, Cave Spring. Gammage Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.
