Joseph Robert Eckelberry, 81, of Flora, Illinois, passed away at 3:30 p.m. on July 18, 2019, at Clay County Hospital in Flora, Illinois. Joe was born on September 11, 1937, in Rinard, Illinois, to Joseph Martin and A. Ozella (Plumley) Eckelberry.

He proudly served his country in the United States Navy from which he retired on March 3, 1975. On October 12, 1978, Joe married Louise Guinn in Louisville, IL.

After his retirement from the Navy, he worked for Bailey Farms in Louisville, IL, for many years. He loved hunting, fishing, turkey hunting, and gardening. Joe had a heart of gold and was always helping someone.

Joe is survived by his wife, Louise Eckelberry of Flora, IL; many nieces and nephews; sisters, Phyllis Vail of Flora, IL, and Rhesa Eckelberry of Flora, IL.

He was preceded in death by his parents, five brothers, and three sisters.

Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m., Wednesday, July 24, 2019, at Faith Tabernacle in Flora, IL. Interment will immediately follow at Bunker Cemetery in Rinard, IL, where full military rites will be accorded. Visitation will be from 6 -8 p.m., Tuesday, July 23, 2019, at Faith Tabernacle in Flora.
