Nancy Ann Gibson, 82, of Old Forge, passed away peacefully surrounded by the love of her daughters on Monday, June 10 at the Masonic Care Community in Utica.
She was born on April 17, 1937, in Altoona, Pa. to the daughter of the late Arthur and Ella May (Hubert) Yon. She was a graduate of Altoona High School and then went on to receive her RN degree at West Penn School of Nursing, in Pittsburgh Pa.
Nancy started her nursing career in 1959 at the New York Presbyterian Hospital in New York City and then moved to the Altoona Hospital in Altoona, Pa. In 1961, she was united in marriage to David Allen Gibson.
She later moved to Waldorf, Maryland and was able to take some time off of work to stay at home with her two young daughters. In 1970 she relocated to Old Forge where she accepted a position with the Town of Webb Health Center as an RN. Here, she continued her career with the many people who became her loyal friends. Nancy spent 37 years at the Town of Webb Heath Center helping many of the local people in the community until her retirement in 2007.
During her time in Old Forge, she owned and operated two local establishments: The Ferns Restaurant and Gift Shop, and Alpine Pizza and Sub Shop. She also assisted at McCauley Mountain Ski Area for a few winters where she tended to injured skiers that were hurt on the mountain when ski patrol was unavailable.
Nancy had a wonderful sense of humor with family and friends and it often shined through while working with all of her colleagues at the Town of Webb Health Center, and Dr. Rintrona’s office staff. Nancy felt very close to all those she worked with and held each and every one of them dear to her heart.
Nancy was a member of Niccolls Memorial Presbyterian Church, and the Beta Sigma PI Sorority in Old Forge. She loved, going to the beach in Florida, traveling with her friends, knitting, decorating her home, shopping, sewing, and spending time with her daughters and grandchildren. She was a loving and caring mother and grandmother who cherished the time she spent with her friends, family, and especially her four grandchildren.
She leaves behind, her daughters, Tracey (Thomas) Down of Old Forge, and Julie (Scott) Liddle also of Old Forge, her grandchildren, McKenzie Liddle, Austin Down, Corey Down, and Camry Liddle, her sister-in-law, Betsey Gibson of Frederick, Md., her good friend Barbara Ball of Old Forge, nieces and nephews, all of her previous co-workers at the Town of Webb Health and Dr. Rintrona’s office as well as many friends she had in the community of Old Forge. Nancy is predeceased by her friend Joan Ward of Old Forge.
The family wishes to sincerely thank the Masonic Care Community especially the Manhattan wing for the wonderful care complemented by true friendship and compassion that was given to Nancy during her stay there.
Funeral services will be private and held at the convenience of the family. Interment will be in Riverview Cemetery in Old Forge. Arrangements are with the Dimbleby Funeral Homes 128 Fern Ave., Old Forge.
