The Recorder Harold, Mar 6, 1952:
Charles O. Lipe, Pioneer of Lemhi Co., Passes Away
Charles O. Lipe, 84, resident of Idaho for 71 years died on Feb 22 [1952], at this home in Twin Falls. He was an early day freighter in Lemhi County and at one time ran a store at Sunfield.
Mr. Lipe was born on November 20, 1867 at Duquoin, Illinois, and came to Lemhi county in the territory of Idaho in 1881 with his parents.
He was married to Daisy Cottom on March 8, 1894 at Junction.
Mr. Lipe was an early day freighter into Leesburg and the Thunder Mountain area during its hey-day, and also freighted into Lemhi county from Red Rock, Montana until the coming of the G. & P. Railroad.
From 1903 until 1910, he operated a store and post office at Sunfield, near the Lemhi Indian reservation, and made many friends among the Indians. One special friend was Chief Tendoy, and Mr. Lipe has said since that the ceremonial burial of the chief in 1906 was one of his most vivid recollections.
Survivors include his widow Daisy Lipe; one son, Horace O. Lipe of King Hill; three daughters Mrs. Glodine White, Long Beach, Calif, Mrs. Florence Mishler, Portland, Ore., and Mrs. Fern Sergeant of Twin Falls. Eleven grandchildren, sixteen great grandchildren and several nephews and nieces also survive. One son preceded him in death.
