Jane Melbrina Sweeney was born about 1854 in Galena, Illinois to Charles Sweeney (born in Ireland) and Elizabeth Mulvaney (born in Maryland). Her parents were married in Maryland and came to Galena about 1844 to work in the lead mines. Jane was married to James McGuire on June 9, 1870 in Hazel Green, Wisconsin. The couple lived in Gordon's Ferry, Iowa during the first years of their marriage and then moved to Wabasha, Minnesota about 1876. They were the parents of four children: Charles, William, Edward, and Maggie. Jane died February 26, 1884 in Wabasha of typhoid fever at the age of 29. She is buried next to her in laws in the St. Felix cemetery in Wabasha.
