R. DEMPSEY DUNN age 66, of 835 Bethel Hill School Road, Roxboro, NC died Wednesday afternoon, July 17, 2019 at Person Memorial Hospital.


Mr. Dunn was born June 18, 1953 in Person County, NC son of the late Roy Thomas Dunn and Pauline Johnson Dunn who survives and was husband of 23 years to Laurel "Laurie" Apo Dunn who also survives. He was a superintendent with Power Plant Maintenance and also previously worked for Southern Energy, the Person County Sheriff's Department, and was a member of North Roxboro Baptist Church.


Dempsey loved hunting, fishing shooting his guns, animals, and his hometown communities of Longhurst and Bethel Hill. He had a great joy of being around small children as he got older.


Surviving in addition to his mother and wife are three children, Dempsey Christopher Dunn & wife, Tonya, Ayla Elizabeth Dunn, Eden Celina Dunn, brother, Timmy Ray Dunn & wife, Kim, three grandchildren, Ethan Thomas Dunn, Nathan Ray Dunn, and Lucas Wrenn Dunn, all of Roxboro, NC. A host of nieces and nephews, and great nieces and nephews also survive.


In addition to his father, Mr. Dunn is preceded in death by a brother, Terry Thomas Dunn and sister, Mildred Linda Dunn Tippett.


A Celebration of Life will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. Sunday, July 21, 2019 in the Strickland and Jones Funeral Services Chapel with the Rev. Herbert Brown officiating. Inurnment will follow at the Providence Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends and guests Saturday, July 20, 2019 from 5:00 till 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home and other times at the home of Mrs. Pauline Dunn, 1309 Dale Street, Roxboro, NC. The family request that these events would all be casual dress.



Honorary pallbearers will be J.B. Bowes, Wheeler Carver, Todd Cecile, Al Cox, Carlton Ford, Johnny Harris, Reggie Herring, Hughie Holt, A.J. Johnson, Ed Lee, Clayton Meadows, Richard Parham, Billy Reynolds, Kenny Rickman, and Joe Weaver.
