Daughter of Grover Cleveland and Roxie Douglass Mungo, wife of Jack Carson Richardson.

MULLINS - Mrs. Joy Mungo Richardson, 86, widow of Jack Carson Richardson, passed away at her home in Mullins Thursday, July 18, 2019 after an extended illness.

Mrs. Richardson was born May 30, 1933 in Pageland, a daughter to the late Grover Cleveland Mungo and the late Roxie Douglass Mungo. Mrs. Richardson was a graduate of Winthrop College, after which she pursued a career in education as a teacher for the Mullins School District, from which she retired. Following retirement, she played an active role with the Retired Teachers Association. Mrs. Richardson was a member of the Tussie Mussie Garden Club, the Mullins Choral Club, and loved to play Bridge with her friends. Joy was a member of the Mullins Presbyterian Church, where she was a member of the Joy Sunday School Class and the church choir.

Surviving Mrs. Richardson are a daughter, May Joy (Kenneth) Cannon of Florence; a brother, Dan Mungo (Betty) of Pageland; 2 grandchildren; and 2 great-grandchildren.

Mrs. Richardson was predeceased by her husband, Jack Carson Richardson, a son, John Murray Richardson and a brother, G.C. Mungo, Jr.

Funeral services will be held Sunday, July 21 at 3:00 p.m. in the sanctuary of the Mullins Presbyterian Church, with Rev. Jason Brewer officiating. A private family burial will follow in Cedardale Cemetery, directed by Cox-Collins Funeral Home.
