Shelby Jean Smith, 82, of Floyds Knobs, Indiana, passed away on Wednesday, July 17, 2019. He was born on September 2, 1936 in Warren County, Kentucky to the late Virgil and Zelie (Cox) Smith.

He retired from Engelhard Chemical Company in Louisville and was a member of Covenant Community Fellowship Church. Shelby had a story for nearly everything and also possessed a wonderful sense of humor with his specialty being in playing pranks. He also enjoyed spending time outdoors mowing and fishing.

He was an amazing man who loved the Lord and lived his life the way Jesus had called him to live, love and serve. Shelby's life was centered around his family as he served as a wonderful provider and example to them. He served as a father figure to many by simply being himself. Shelby was a devoted and loving husband.

Shelby was also preceded in death by his wife, Deanna (Leidolf) Smith; siblings, Lena Mae Moore and James Smith.

Shelby is survived by his children, David Smith (Ginger), Gary Smith (Jeanne), Julie Ford, Lori Fenwick (David), Caroline Krouse; sister-in-law, Marie Smith; 11 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be from 3:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Wednesday, July 24, 2019 at Newcomer Cremations, Funerals & Receptions (3309 Ballard Lane, New Albany) and on Thursday after 10:00 a.m. His memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday in the chapel at the funeral home with burial to follow at St. Mary of the Knobs Catholic Cemetery in Floyds Knobs, Indiana.
