Jackson

A celebration of the life of Mary Louise "Weezie" Castle will be held on Friday, March 30, 2012, at St. Philip's Episcopal Church, 5400 Old Canton Road. Visitation will be at 1:30 p.m. followed by a Requiem Eucharist at 3:00 p.m.

Weezie died after a lengthy illness Wednesday, March 21, 2012, in the company of her daughters. She was born February 2, 1922, in Corregidor, Philippines to General Junius and Hazel Houghton. When General Houghton took command of the military airbase at Hawkins Field 72 years ago, Jackson, Mississippi, became her home.

Weezie married Henry E. Barksdale of Jackson and later Hugh Craig Castle. She was actively involved for over 50 years in community service through various organizations such as the Junior League. She avidly supported and promoted the arts with the opera and ballet holding special places in her heart. She will be remembered for her giving nature, her joy of music and dance, and the love she had for her grandchildren and great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband Craig Castle, her brothers Jay, Phil, and Mike Houghton, her sisters Anne Houghton and Martha Lyell, and her grandson Craig Barksdale McIntire.

Weezie is survived by her daughters Mary Louise Barksdale, Melanie Hazel Barksdale Williams, her daughter in spirit Janice Charleston, her grandchildren Joseph Troy McIntire (Betsy), Melanie Louise Holcombe, and Allison Neville Moore, and 9 great grandchildren.

In lieu of flowers, the family has requested that memorials be made to the Organ Fund of St. Philip's Episcopal Church, or to the Alzheimer's Association.
