Fern Ryan, 81, of 437 N. Court died of heart failure Nov. 15, 1983, in Seymour Care Center, where she had lived since last Saturday. She was born March 21, 1902, to William and Jennie Duncan Wright Jr. She married W. J. Ryan on Aug. 20,1920, at Seymour. He died April 19, 1983. They farmed in Wayne County for 23 years before moving to Ottumwa in 1943. She was a homemaker and belonged to the United Wesley Methodist Church, Pythian Sister Temple 196 and Degree of Honor Lodge 19. She is survived by a son, Ivan J. of De Forest, Wis.; and a daughter, Darlene McElvain of Numa. The service will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at Shrine of Memories Funeral Home, the Rev. Robert H. Gamble of Wesley United Methodist Church officiating. Entombment will be at the Shrine of Memories Mausoleum.
