Jenny Michelle Newton, 31, died Feb. 19, 2003. Funeral services were conducted Feb. 22 at First Baptist Church of Hamilton with Dr. Tim Moody and Mark Williamson officiating. Burial was at East View Cemetery in McGirk.
Miss Newton was born Sept. 28, 1971 in Hamilton. She was a 1990 honor graduate of Hamilton High School where she was vice-president of the National Honor Society, competed at the regional level in cross country, track, UIL academic contests and was a varsity cheerleader, homecoming duchess and a member of the student council.
She attended Tarleton State University where she received a Bachelor of Science degree in Biology on Dec. 17, 1994.
She then served three years in the United States Air Force, after which she returned to Tarleton and earned a Masters of Education degree in Physical Education on Dec. 17, 1999.
She was preceded in death by her father, Larry Leo Newton and her grandparents, Edna and Ozro Newton.
Survivors include her brother, Ryan Newton of Bedford; parents, Debbie and J.D. Roberson of Glen Rose; grandmother, Louise Chambers, also of Glen Rose; a host of aunts, uncles, cousins and friends. Also, Lynda and Shannon Smith.
Pallbearers were: Kevin King, Thad Purcell, Aaron Calahan, Scott Carter, Richard Norris and Adam Carter.
