Dale C. Strange, age 74, of Kenosha, died Wednesday (January 14, 2004) at United Hospital Systems, St. Catherine's Campus.
Born December 7, 1929 in Flora, IL, he was the son of the late Carlton W. and Maude A. (Robinson) Strange.
While in Flora, he attended schools there and was a graduate of Flora High School.
From March 29, 1949 until February 21, 1970, he served with the United States Army. For 2 years, he served with the 82nd Division during the Korean War and was awarded the Purple Heart. Following the Korean War, he was re-assigned to Ft. Sheridan and came to Kenosha in 1952 while stationed there. Following Ft. Sheridan, he was stationed in Ft. Ord, CA, Japan, Ft. Leonardwood, MO, and Ft. Benjamin Harris, Indiana, and Stuttgart, Germany from where he retired. Following his retirement from the military, he returned to Kenosha in 1970. From April 4, 1970 until August 31, 1990, he was employed with the United States Postal Service. He also worked as a school crossing guard from 1991 until 1993.
On July 5, 1952 in Waukegan, IL, he married Hattie E. Mattner.
He was a member of St. Johns Lutheran Church, a life member of Unity Lodge #367 F & A.M. , the Union Grove #288 F & A.M. the former Pike Lodge #355 F & A.M., and the former South Port #343 F & A.M., where he served as Worshipful Master of both lodges. He was a member of the Silas H. Shepherd Lodge # 1843 F & A.M., the Elks Lodge #702, Waukegan, IL, and a former member of the Elks Lodge #750 in Kenosha, where he worked extensively for the veterans. He was also a member of the V.F.W. #3999, Flora, IL, the Loyal Order of the Moose Lodge #667, Zion, IL, the American Association of Retired Persons, the Second (Indian Head) Division Association, Past President of Kenosha Shrine Club, the Tripoli Shrine Temple, Milwaukee, the Valley of Milwaukee AASR, Past Patron Pike Order of Eastern Star, Past President of the Kenosha County Baseball Old Timers, the Old Time Ball Players Association of Wisconsin, a life member of the Wisconsin Badger Clan #50, Hillbilly's, an Honorary Member of the Millerville Lodge #126 F & A.M., Indianapolis, IN, life member of the Tall Cedar's of Lebanon, the Propeller Club of Kenosha, Honorary Member of the Fountain that Heals Lodge F & A.M., Heilbronn, Germany. He served as past president of Schwabich Hall Square and Compass Club, Germany, 1965. He was a life member of the European Shrine Club, a member of the National Association of Letter Carriers of Kenosha, the National Association of Retired Federal Employees of Kenosha, and the 82nd AA Air Bourne Association. He was also a life member and past commander of the Disabled American Veterans, Chapter #20.
He enjoyed collecting and trading sport memorabilia and was an avid Chicago Bears Fan.
Survivors include his wife: Hattie Strange of Kenosha, a son: John D. (Teri) Strange of West Bend, WI, four daughters: Mary Alice (Mark) Roberts of Kenosha, Kathy Lytle of Kenosha, Barbara A. (Larry) Ancona of Kenosha, and Diane (Dennis) Willis of Greenville, NC, and eleven grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his step-father: Walter Miller, four brothers: Glen, George, Charles, and Bertis Loe Strange, and three sisters: Pauline Brown, Mary Alice Strange and a sister in infancy.
