Jeffrey J. “Jeff” Powell, age 58 of Dayton, passed away Wednesday July 17, 2019 at Hospice of Dayton after a long, hard fight with cancer. He was born July 15, 1961 in Dayton, the son of the late Edward and Mattie (Whitis) Powell. Jeff was a longtime guitar player in the band, Diddley, and he was also a songwriter. Jeff was an avid Cincinnati Reds and Cleveland Browns fan. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by two nieces, Janice Jewett and Allison Powell. He is survived by his fiancé, Michelle Martin; three children, Katie (Sterling) Newsome, Trinity Martin, Bryce Martin; four siblings, Diana (Joel) Beegle, Dell (Barbara) Powell; Joe (Bettye) Powell, Ronnie (Joanne) Powell; the Diddley Family; as well as nieces, nephews and extended family and friends. A funeral service will be held on Friday July 19, 2019 at 6:00 PM at the Belton-Stroup Funeral Home, 422 E. Dayton-Yellow Springs Rd., Fairborn, Pastor Joe Stephens officiating. The family will receive friends from 3:00 PM until the time of service. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society.
