She was born on February 9, 1917, in Huntsville, OH, to the late Harold and Mabel (Fullerton) Lease.
On February 9, 1938, she married A Leslie Dowden in Bellefontaine, OH, and he preceded her in death on April 18, 2001.
She is also preceded in death by a brother, Richard Lease, and a sister, Miriam Creek.
Surviving are her children, Harold (Nancy) Dowden of West Liberty and Phyllis (Harold) Gross of Urbana; grandchildren, Mark (Lori) Dowden of West Liberty, Malinda (Ronald) Buchenroth of Bellefontaine, Shelia Dowden of Columbus and Christina (James) Bramlage of Bellefontaine; 7 great-grandchildren, Kelsi, Karli and William Dowden, Allison and Levi Buchenroth, and Catherine and Elizabeth Bramlage; and four nephews.
Lois was a homemaker and farmer's wife as well as a longtime member of the West Liberty United Methodist Church, where she was the Financial Secretary for almost 50 years.
She was a member of the Urbana Senior Citizens and the Liberty Extension Club. Lois made her own clothing as well as her husband's. She enjoyed knitting and had knitted more than 15 sweaters and had given them to Guide Post for the Knit for Kids program.
She enjoyed tole painting as well as painting ceramics and porcelain.
Pastor Lee Ortman will officiate at a 9:30 am funeral service on Saturday, October 13, 2012, at the Kauffman-Eichholtz Funeral Home in West Liberty, where friends may call from 4 to 7 pm on Friday, October 12, 2012. Burial will be in the Highland Memorial Cemetery, West Liberty, following the service.
