Mr. Curry was born in Portland, Maine, to Alder and Phyllis (Davidson) Curry on February 6, 1947. He attended school in Portland, graduating from Deering High School in 1965. Soon after, Stephen joined the Marines and then the Army National Guard, where he retired after serving proudly for 20 years. Stephen spent two years in Vietnam, earning several honors including the Purple Heart. He married Sharon Grace on August 27, 1983, joining her family of four. He enjoyed spending time at the Moose Lodge in Scarborough. There he was Governor for two terms and made lifelong friendships.
Stephen is survived by his wife, Sharon Curry, a sister Joanne Kenyon of Clifton Park, New York and a sister Marilyn and her husband John Hansen of South Portland, Maine. He is also survived by several nieces, nephews, grandchildren and great grandchildren.
The family will be forever grateful to the staff at Gosnell for the kindness and care shown to Stephen over the course of his stay with them.
A military graveside service will be held on Friday, July 19th, 1:00 p.m., Brooklawn Cemetery, 2002 Congress Street, Portland, Maine. A reception will immediately follow at Willows Restaurant, 740 Broadway, South Portland, Maine. The family requests in lieu of flowers, please donate to the National Coalition for Homeless Veterans.
