Claude “Maynard” Howell, Jr., passed away on Tuesday, July 16, 2019 at Life Care Center of Columbia, following a brief stay there. Maynard had lived a full life, reaching the age of 103, before his passing.

Maynard was born on May 23, 1916, in Defiance, Missouri to the late Claude Maynard Howell, Sr. and Alverta Pugh Howell. During WWII Maynard served in the US Army Air Force, as an aircraft mechanic. He married Camille King on December 14, 1946 and they built a beautiful life and family together, until her passing on August 7, 1997. Maynard was a retiree of the United States Postal Service. He was a member of Hope Bible Church, and served as an elder for many years, until he was unable to do so. He also served on the board of directors of the Midwest Messianic Center in Missouri. He also was a dedicated volunteer at Child Evangelism Fellowship. In addition to his service to others, he also stayed very involved in the lives of his extended family, attending all family events of his children, grandchildren, nieces and nephews. He enjoyed celebrating the milestones of their lives, such as, weddings, baptisms, graduations, and many other events.

Maynard is survived by his children: Donna (Bob) Allen, Bob (Barbara) Howell, Marilyn Holcomb, and Maynard (Joy) Howell; grandchildren: Joel, Kristy, Mark, Meggin, Robert, Wendy, Michael, Hawk, Melissa, Camille, Brian, Brad, Katelyn and Jolie; many great-grandchildren, several great-great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews, whom he loved greatly. In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by his son-in-law: Samuel “Hawk” Holcomb, Jr.; great-granddaughter: Clara Howell; and his siblings and their spouses: Verlene and George “Shorty” Downs, Margarita and Larry Sleen, and Joyce and Jim Jones.

Funeral services for Maynard will be held on Tuesday, July 23, 2019 at 10:00 a.m. at Hope Bible Church in O’Fallon, Missouri, with Bruce Chulka officiating. Burial will follow at Bethel Cemetery in Pond, Missouri. Military honors will be provided by the United States Army. The family will visit with friends on Monday, July 22 from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m., also at the church.

Grandsons, Joel Allen, Mark Allen, Robert Allen, Michael Howell, Hawk Holcomb, Brian Howell and Brad Howell will serve as pallbearers.
